President Vincent Price sent this message to the Duke community on Monday, September 9

Dear Colleagues,

In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, we wish to express our gratitude to the first responders, Duke Facilities team members, and university and Duke Health staff who helped the Duke community weather the storm safely. Our main campuses were spared most of the rain and wind; while the Marine Lab in Beaufort sustained moderate damage, it reopened yesterday and resumed classes this morning.

At the same time, we recognize that many members of the Duke community have friends and family who were in the direct path of Dorian. The northern Bahamas were devastated by the storm, and parts of the Atlantic coast also have a significant recovery ahead. Duke is committed to assisting these efforts, and you can support the recovery by contributing to any of the following organizations:

Duke University’s Doing Good in the Neighborhood – Emergency Relief Fund

North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund

American Red Cross

Bahamas Red Cross

Thank you again to everyone who worked to keep Duke safe during Hurricane Dorian.

Vincent E. Price
President
